Despite his many creditable achievements and accomplishments, Mr.Vellathamby Hussain belonged to that dying breed of public servants who carried out whatever duties entrusted to them efficiently and loyally.

Mr. Hussain graduated from the University of Peradeniya and obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree. Thereafter, he continued his post-graduate studies at University of Madurai Kamaraj and obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. He had many professional qualifications which enhanced his skills and personality.

He began his career in 1979 at the National Savings Bank, Kandy as a Junior Officer. He served the National Savings Bank (NSB) for six years and thereafter in 1985, he joined Paramount Shipping (Pvt.) Ltd. as an Accountant. He served 13 years’ service as an Accountant under Paramount Shipping (PVT.) Ltd.

He joined Rehabilitation Authority in January 01, 1998 as an Assistant Director. He served for 20 years in REPPIA in different Divisions including, General Administration, Payment of Compensation for Government Servants, Payment of Compensation for General public, Most Affected Persons, Political Violence, Payment of Compensation for Religious Places and other Loan Schemes. In 2006, he was promoted as the Deputy Director. He played a very crucial role in all the welfare activities and he was enthusiastic in discharging his responsibilities.

A function of Service Appreciation has been arranged in order to praise the service of six officers those who had provided their untiring servicefor the Rehabilitation Authority for a long period. The function will take place on 26 October 2017 from 1. 30 p.m. to 4. 30 p.m. at the Ministry Auditorium. The function is organized by the Welfare Society of the Rehabilitation Authority in cooperation with all the employees of the Authority. The following officers will be praised there for their service provided for the Authority:

  • Mr. V. Hussain (Deputy Director)
  • Mr. E.A. Samarasinghe (former Chairman)
  • Mr. D. K. Jinadasa (former Working Director)
  • Mr. S. Ganeshadas (Rehabilitation Assistant)
  • Mrs. AnjaleeUrshulaNawarathna (Translator)
  • Mrs. GayaniRajanayake (Rehabilitation Authority)

The presidential official mobile service was held on 21 October 2017 at SivapirahasaMahaVidyala in Vavuniyawith the chieftainship of His Excellency Maithreepala Sirisena. A total amount of Rs. 950, 000. 00 was paid for nine injured and one deceased persons as compensations for those who affected due to the war conditions.

Additionally Rs. 1.6 Mn was granted for the reconstruction of nine damaged Places of Worship at the presidential official mobile service.

The distribution of cheques for the dead and injured victims of the Welikada Prison Premises incident will be held on 25October 2017 at 11. 00 a.m.with the chieftainship of Hon. Minister, D.M. Swaminathan, the Minister of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs at the Ministry Office.

Rs, 09 Million worth cheques will be granted for four deceased and two injured persons at the ceremony.

The Rehabilitation Authority has paid Rs. 22.5 Million as compensation for ten deceased and five injured persons of this incident by this time.
